![]() Triangle was a big endeavour, a massive piece of art. Radio Metal : With Triangle, you came to the end of a six-year cycle that you initiated with your first album Sic Lvceat Lvx. It should break down the past, to give space for new things to grow. » « The leitmotif that the album follows is destruction. It‘s the same with interviews for me. » An explanation that shows how meticulously attentive and how wary of imprecision the musician is when it comes to his art. « Compare a jam session to an in depth songwriting phase and imagine the two results and how different they will be. We simply had to ask a few questions to the band’s mastermind, Chris S.R., who now only answers interviews via e-mail, so he has enough time to think. It’s also, once again, a remarkable work of art, chock-full of symbols borrowed from Christianity, mythology and esotericism, that transcends genres and encourages the listener to reflect upon him- or herself. The first album of a diptych (the second is to be released at a later date), Hearts Of No Light offers a darkly pessimistic vision of humanity. And change, because in many ways, the band struck down a conceptual path vastly different from Triangle, tried to « demolish the past » to better rise from the ashes, and revealed never-seen-before facets of their musical personality. Continuity, because Schammasch has leveraged on one album everything they’ve ever developed musically. For the Swiss band, a new era began in late 2019 with Hearts Of No Light, which was as much about continuity as it was about change. So, if we are already willing to accept that the alien operates in a kind of hive colony (like bees and ants), AND we buy everything else about it (the convoluted, unlikely lifecycle, the incredibly fast growth rates, molecular acid for blood, etc) then the solution above is more than acceptable. After reaching the end of a massive cycle that saw the release of a single album (Sic Lvceat Lvx), a double album (Contradiction), a triple album (Triangle), Schammasch were under a bit of pressure, to put it mildly. If there is no gender, then the change is simply one of role. This makes the idea of a drone becoming an egg layer even more compelling. ![]() In fact, there's a strong suggestion that the alien species instead achieves its genetic diversity by intergrating DNA from each host. So much about the alien alludes to insect behaviour and traits already.Īnd, in the films, the a so-called "queen", or egg layer, does not appear to require a male to fertilise her eggs. So with these precedents, it's quite feasible that a single alien may possess such traits and, change into a queen because of environmental stimulus or diet etc., so that it may then lay a tonne of eggs, asexually, in order to begin a new colony. Also, some queen ants don't even require male fertilisation in order to bear offspring. Similarly, in bee and ant colonies, a lavae only grows into a queen because of how it is fed. And there are precedents in known earth species of sex change. The reason the "role change" solution works better is that it causes minimal disruption to the life cycle as accepted in alien canon. Why would a species lay the exact same eggs which it otherwise "grows" on the corpses of prey? It makes an already straightforward and linear life cycle convoluted. However, it has never been accepted because it contradicts the egg laying lifecycle introduced in the subsequent films. ![]() ![]() Again, it is similar to how some insects may paralyse hosts for young to feast on and hatch out of. That makes more sense than humans being turned into eggs. The humans are used as egg yolk being slowly absorbed so the larvae can grow into an egg. ![]() Originally posted by LMA:Alien 1 the alien was laying larvae next to the captured humans. ![]()
